POSITION: Costume Shop Assistant

Hours per Week:  30 – 35 hours per week (Flextime)

Schedule:  Will be set by the Costume Shop Manager on a weekly basis

Direct Supervisor:  Thomas Brooks, Costume Shop Manager

Position Summary:

Works with the construction, fitting, alteration, and refurbishment of costumes for all productions as assigned by the Costume Manager. 

 

SCOPE OF SERVICES:

  • Works closely with the Costume Shop Manager for daily tasks and wardrobe needs
  • Sew, either by machine or hand, the costumes assigned by the Costume Shop Manager
  • Craft or adapt the costume accessories assigned by the Costume Shop Manager using a variety of techniques
  • Manage time effectively on each construction project.
  • Maintain personal work area, including sewing machinery, to keep working effectively
  • Helps oversee Wardrobe needs for Strike
  • Attend costume fittings when needed
  • Keep a running list of “things to do” for yourself and the costume shop staff . Communicate this list to the Costume Shop Manager on a daily basis. Prioritize lists regularly.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of the dressing rooms.
  • Supervision of the wardrobe crew.
  • Help with wardrobe during run of shows as determined by Costume Manager.
  • Maintenance of all costumes and clothing worn during dress performances.
  • Help with laundry during, before, and after the run of production.
  • Inventory costumes. This should be done carefully so that any missing items are identified and located.
  • Assist Costume Manager with costume rentals as needed.
  • Aid the Back of House Staff in keeping a clean and tidy shop, greenroom, backstage space, and help with any/all warehouse/rental needs.
  • Other duties as needed throughout the theatre.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Is a kind, collaborative person who works well in group settings
  • Prior experience sewing, either by machine or hand, and other crafting techniques that support the wardrobe fabrication process
  • Demonstrates proficiency and knowledge in costume techniques and craft

 

Hourly Salary:  $15.00/hour
