Fog Information

What is fog/theatrical haze?

What is the fog made out of?
The fog you see is 70% water vapor (just distilled water from the
grocery store) and 30% fog juice.

What is fog juice?
Fog juice contains a mixture of Triethylene Glycol, Monopropylene Glycol, Dipropylene Glycol and Demineralized Water. While a small percentage of people are allergic to Glycols, the reaction is caused by consumption of the liquid, not through breathing it in. This combination of fog juice and water is used in 99% of all musicals and concerts throughout the world and has been a standard practice since the mid-70’s. For the Safety Data Sheet for the specific fog juice used at Greenville Theatre, click the button below.

Is fog juice safe?
Yes! Fog juice is non-toxic, 100% safe. However, a small percentage of people are allergic to Glycols, one of the main ingredients. Please see the attached PDF for additional information.

About our Hearing Loop

What if I have trouble hearing?

Not to worry! We provide Hearing Loops which allow the sound from our P.A. system to transmit directly into hearing aids equipped with a T-coil setting.

If your device is not equipped with a T-coil setting, please stop by the box office to pick up a complimentary headset for use during the show. Quantities are limited and headsets may not be reserved ahead of time. Photo I.D. is required at the time of check out.

Hearing Loops allow the sound from our P.A. system to transmit directly into hearing aids equipped with a T-coil setting.

A hearing loop provides a magnetic, wireless signal that is picked up by the hearing aid when it is set to the T (Telecoil) setting. The loop system consists of a microphone to pick up the spoken word, an amplifier which processes the signal, and the loop cable which is a wire placed around the perimeter of a room that acts as an antenna. When a hearing aid user selects the T setting he or she can pick up the sounds spoken into the Greenville Theatre microphones instead of the hearing aid’s internal microphone. This results in improved speech understanding because any background noise is eliminated.

Understanding speech in reverberant places such as auditoriums is often difficult because of background noise picked up by the hearing aid. When a hearing aid is set to T- coil, the instrument becomes a personalized speaker in the ear for the Greenville Theatre microphones. Sounds are heard clearly, without distortion or background noise pick-up.

In most cases, the T-coil program is accessed by pushing a button on your device which must first be programmed by your audiologist. Sometimes these settings are referred to as memory settings.

Push the button and if your device is equipped,  you will hear beeps (one beep, two beeps, three beeps, etc.), or you may hear the words: “Microphone and telecoil” or “Telecoil” only.

Contact your audiologist or Dr. Kristin Davis if you are unsure about your device. Most behind the ear hearing aids and custom in-the-ear instruments can be so equipped if yours is not already, and sometimes the T-coil is installed but not activated.

For questions about your hearing aids and telecoils, talk to your audiologist or contact Dr. Kristin Davis at kristin@davisaudiology.com • 864-655-8300 • www.davisaudiology.com
